Summary

The Principal Machine Learning Engineer is responsible for the technical design, development, implementation, and analysis of the company's machine learning projects. As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you'll leverage your expertise and knowledge of machine learning to help lay the foundation for current and future machine learning projects as well as develop and deploy machine learning features and applications. You'll assist with gathering and preparing the right data, identifying innovative ways of using that data, and building machine learning models and applications that bring value to the users and the business. As you do this, you'll work with people from a variety of roles as well as customers.

Responsibilities:

Lead projects including development and deployment of SOTA ML models (incl. LLMs) in production at scale

- fine tune existing open source models in multimodal space (text, images, time series)

- pre-train large language models with new tasks and instructions in multimodal space

- search/research/prepare instructional datasets for pre-training

- equip large language models with the ability of calling external tools

- align large language models based on feedback obtained during their deployment

Design ad-hoc annotation processes.

Work closely with product management and other engineering team (e.g., MLOps, CloudOps, Data Engineering).

Continuously monitor and improve ML-based application quality.

Mentor engineers to up level ML talent across the team.

Help to define and drive forward-looking ML strategy for the team and the company.

Understand, implement, and improve upon the latest research in ML and Generative AI.

Experience and Skills:

Excellent understanding of AI/ML (incl. generative AI)

Hands-on experience developing and deploying machine learning models (incl. deep-learning-based transformers and their pre-training and fine-tuning, LLMs) in production at scale, including pre-training large language models with new tasks and instructions

Experience developing datasets for various training incl. pre-training, fine-tuning, and instruction-training

Excellent engineering competence: experience designing complex software and making them usable in production

Experience navigating the full MLOps technical stack, with a focus on architecture development and model evaluation and usage

Experience bringing state-of-the-art approaches to the real world

Experience with large scale data processing

Demonstrated success in technical leadership and in managing teams of machine learning engineers

7+ years of industry experience developing, deploying large-scale ML-driven products

3+ years experience leading cross-team engineering efforts

Masters or PhD in Comp Sci or related fields

Understanding of an object-oriented programming language (Python, Java)

Desired Skills

Experience with front-end development ML application prototyping and use of complex HPC infrastructure with full autonomy.

Experience in closely collaborating with other engineering teams to deploy ML-based applications.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Experience collaborating with external scientific partners, such as academic institutions or industry research groups

A passion for solving complex technical problems and a commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest developments in machine learning
