Overview Patient Safety Attendant (PSA) role at Valleywise Health. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and supervision of a Registered Nurse, the PSA performs nursing-related services for pediatric through geriatric patients requiring increased monitoring greater than is available with general unit staff. The PSA floats to multiple units as needed and remains with the assigned patient to monitor safety. Notifies professional staff of patient needs and alerts them in case of emergency. Documents on observation flow sheet and assists licensed nursing staff with care as delegated. This position supports a safe environment for patients who meet criteria: a) suicidal, b) administrative hold, c) pediatric patient not boarded in a secured area and/or at risk of harm, d) impulsive, e) self-injurious, f) cognitively impaired/confused, g) unsteady gait. Collaborates with unit staff, patient, and family. Responsibilities Provide nursing-related services and monitoring for patients per direction of Nurse Manager and RN. Stay with the assigned patient in the room and monitor safety. Notify professional staff of patient needs and escalate in emergencies. Document on observation flow sheet and assist licensed staff as delegated. Support a safe environment for patients meeting specified criteria. Collaborate with unit teammates, patients, and families. Qualifications Education: Prefers a high school diploma or GED. Experience: Prior experience as a PSA in hospital, nursing home, or home care setting preferred; prior hospital experience as a patient care assistant or PSA preferred. Specialized Training: Complete Valleywise Health computer classes and EVE training within six months. Certification/Licensure: BLS card required at hire through AHA. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Bilingual preferred; ability to work with culturally diverse people; strong communication, time management, and leadership; ability to read, write, and speak English.
