A law firm located in Tempe, Arizona, is seeking a Patent Prosecution Attorney to join its intellectual property practice. The ideal candidate will have expertise in biochemistry, biotechnology, or related fields and a passion for scientific innovation. Responsibilities include guiding clients through patent processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to IP strategies. Core Responsibilities: Draft, review, and revise patent applications in biotechnology, biochemistry, and life sciences. Analyze prior art, assess patentability, and develop strategies to strengthen IP portfolios. Respond to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office using strategic arguments. Collaborate with inventors and scientists to understand technologies and craft legal protections. Advise clients on IP strategies, risk management, and market positioning. Maintain communication with clients to update and guide them throughout the prosecution process. Stay informed on legal, scientific, and patent trends to provide proactive counsel. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in biochemistry, biotechnology, or related fields. Licensing & Certifications: Active membership in a U.S. state bar (Arizona preferred). Registration to practice before the USPTO . Experience: 2 to 8 years of relevant patent drafting and prosecution experience, especially in biotech or life sciences sectors. Experience working with scientists and clients to tailor patent strategies. Skills & Competencies: Exceptional technical writing and analytical skills. Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to translate complex scientific concepts for non-experts. Adaptability to changing legal and technological landscapes. Preferred Attributes: Knowledge of international patent systems. Experience advising biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences clients. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Location & Flexibility: Reside in or be willing to relocate to Tempe, AZ. Flexible work arrangements with some in-office presence.
