Location: East Coast

Summary:

A Fiber Characterization (FC) Technician will be experienced in all aspects of fiber optic testing and network troubleshooting. Responsible for the field-testing process under the direction of a project manager as well as progress reporting on the overall project and information which needs to be relayed to the customer and project team. The FC Technician will be personally responsible for maintaining his/her respective certifications to maintain position. Confirms that ll-project fibers are ready to carry traffic by validating insertion loss, optical return loss, chromatic and polarization mode dispersions (OTDR).

Major Responsibilities / Duties

Manage all Test Equipment which has been assigned to the project.

Perform Fiber Characterization Testing:

Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR)

Optical Return& Power Loss

Dispersion Testing

PMD (Polarization Mode Dispersion)

Test and integrate node to node trace and resolve any issue utilizing OTDR

Ensure that all assigned test equipment meets calibration requirements.

Writing and presenting daily reports to the Project Manager for customers' reference.

Assigning specific tasks to subordinates (B-side technician) and monitoring their work ethics for efficiency, quality, and safety.

Responsible for the accuracy of the test results and provides detailed results as required.

Lead and direct a team as required

Must schedule and coordinate the timing and procedures /testing with customer approvals.

Responsible for the integrity of COP paperwork and test results as required and turned over to the customer in timeframe requested.

Test load and stress as well as performance characterization testing

Completes quality assurance procedure and checks the final reports for errors.

Ensure the safety, quality, and efficiency of crew and all parties on site.

Interfaces with customer contacts on projects and work orders.

Provides technical support for customer contacts and Technicians on request.

Attends project planning and progress meetings with or without the customer contacts assigned as required.

Understands, adheres to, all Environmental, Health & Safety policies and Telecommunication standards.

Ensures that all tests/procedures meet or beat project documented requirements.

Position Qualifications / Requirements

Must possess a valid US Driver's License.

High school or equivalent. Vocational/Technical Business School desired.

Critical thinking and problem solve / resolution management.

Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.

Strong Organizational and technical skills/apitude.

Must have color vision and good hearing.

Proficient with Microsoft Office and Vendor Specific Software.

Minimum of 3 years telecommunications training and/or experience.

Must have demonstrated proficiency and profitability at Fiber Characterization Technician (B-Side).

Work Requirements

Proficient use of all tools.

Prolonged standing.

Climbing stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.

Carrying of loads up and down stairs.

Reaching and/or grasping.

Stopping, walking, kneeling, bending, crawling, and crouching.

Carrying, pushing and/or pulling.

Must work outdoors in all weather conditions as required.

Heavy physical requirements (usually lifting/moving up to 70 pounds).

Exposure to noisy or dusty conditions.

Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards.
