Position Summary

GOLDLAW seeks a Director of Finance who will develop and execute fiscal strategies aligned with organizational goals. The role oversees all financial operationsincluding budgeting, financial planning and forecasting, cash flow, vendor management, financial reporting, and risk managementand leads a team of four finance professionals. Working closely with the COO and CEO, the Director will provide strategic insight into the firms financial health, profitability, case valuation, and return on investment. This is an in?person only position; remote work is not available.

Duties / Responsibilities


  • Lead and mentor the finance team, including the Finance Specialist, Bookkeeper, Analyst, and Finance Clerk.
  • Collaborate with HR, Office Services, IT, Legal Intake, Culture, Litigation, and Pre?Suit to ensure seamless integration of financial processes across the firm.
  • Oversee daily financial operations: accounts payable/receivable, vendor management, payroll, insurance policies, financial controls, reconciliations, budget vs. actual, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, KPI reports, attorney bonuses, and updates.
  • Analyze case?level financial performance, case acquisition costs, settlement cycles, and ROI.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including departmental budgeting and variance reporting.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, especially in overhead, operational costs, and vendor contracts.
  • Manage firm expenses, disbursements, payments, and litigation funding.
  • Oversee the vendor approval process, including evaluation, onboarding, and contract negotiation.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for financial and administrative processes.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve workflows for efficiency, cost control, and accountability across departments.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, external regulations, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with the CPA for end?of?year tax planning and compliance reporting.

Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, or related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
  • Prior experience in a professional services firm.
  • Proven vendor contract negotiation and management expertise.
  • Deep understanding of contingency fee?based revenue cycles and case cost management.


Preferred
  • Experience with law firm software such as QuickBooks and FileVine.
  • Knowledge of Pre?Suit and litigation funding arrangements.
  • Process improvement or Six Sigma certification.
  • Personal injury law firm experience.


Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office setting, interacting with the public at events as needed. Standard office equipment is used, and routine manual dexterity and physical mobility are required.

Physical Demands

The position requires regular completion of typical office tasks. No specific physical constraints beyond standard office activities.
